Jakub Danowicz

Born in Poland to Jewish parents, Jakub immigrated to New York as a young teen following the end of World War I. Many find him unapproachable due to his unflappable, almost stone-faced composure, but his quick mind and level head make him a valuable asset to organized crime. He is particularly skilled in the handling of machines and firearms, and has even crafted some of his down design.

Three years prior to our story opening, Jakub lost his left hand and part of his forearm during a firefight. He doesn’t miss it much, as he now has a mechanical replacement.

Cheshire Bloom

Born: March 18th, 1907

Hair: Honey-blonde

Cheshire joined the Kozlow Gang at 16 and rose quickly through the ranks due to his sharp wit, bombastic charm, and courageous enthusiasm for crime. He takes great pride in his personal appearance and can always be counted on to spend his hard-earned take on fashion.

Cheshire’s real value to the gang, however, comes from his magic, which allows him to spontaneously combust objects at will. As law enforcement has never been able to convince a witness to testify against him, nor convince him to demonstrate his powers outright, his crimes remain largely unsolveable.

The source of Cheshire’s magic, along with where he was and what he was doing prior to joining Kozlow, remain a mystery. Only Jakub knows that its origins are demonic.

Bunny Swanson

Bunny Swanson, sometimes known as Bunny AND Swanson, make up the human form of the demon owner of popular night club The Lagoon. Though in fact a single entity, they take great amusement in presenting themselves as a duo - siblings, husband and wife, performer and manager, or whatever other lie suits them at the time. For centuries they have hid in human society, occasionally offering magical “gifts” to the gullible or desperate, in exchange for their souls.

For nearly ten years Cheshire has held a contract with Bunny, enjoying the use of their magic while avoiding the penalties that would cost him his soul. This makes him the longest-lived contract they’ve ever entertained, and thus they hold a great deal of interest in him.
